Greetings beautiful souls and welcome back! ⭐ And welcome to our new subscribers! We are at 160 subscribers now 🙂
Today we’re going to talk about our language surrounding money. As many of you know, with the Law of Attraction, what we believe creates our reality. As such, the language we use to describe money or situations that we use money for, matters.
Specifically, today we are going to talk about alternatives to calling things “expensive”. If you find yourself using this phrasing, or complaining about money in any way, unfortunately, you are blocking money miracles from reaching you.
This post is for you if:
You feel stressed about the rising costs of living
You notice you complain about how expensive things are
You feel stuck at a particular income level or financial setpoint
You’ve tried working on your money mindset in therapy, through books, or other means, without much shift
You’re willing to try new things to help your money situation and mindset
If you don’t learn this key shift in your language: you’ll stay stuck at your current income level/financial setpoint. You’ll continue to feel stressed about money, you’ll block money from reaching you, and you won’t feel very happy in your life.
It is no lie that the cost of living is perhaps the highest now than it ever has been in human history. Please note that if you find yourself complaining about money or labeling things as “expensive”, just know that no one has shown you a better way… not until now :) So please practice self-compassion!
Therefore, it’s worth learning these easy techniques to shifting your money language into something more positive so that you can feel better and live better.
Let’s get started!
Why Does Shifting Our Language About Money Matter?
According to the Law of Attraction, your language helps create your reality. If you say things are expensive and you’ll never be able to pay for everything, guess what - that’s what you’ll see. If you say that there’s never enough - guess what - that’s what you’ll see.
If you say and believe you are connected to an unlimited source of abundance, that all needs are richly met when you trust and surrender, and that you are always taken care of - guess what - that’s what you’ll see.
Why Should I Stop Saying Things Are Expensive?
Saying things are expensive is essentially saying, “I can’t afford it” or “It stresses me to buy it.” Those are disempowering beliefs and statements. They carry a negative charge. According to the book Worthy by Nancy Levin - saying “I can’t” is the same thing as saying “I won’t”. Which will end up being a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Note: I am not writing this to grant people permission to spend outside their means. I do not recommend you do that either, but what I am saying is a simple shift in your language can help you feel better and open up the channels for you to receive more money. Or, to at least feel good about your current money situation.
What’s the Difference Between Saying Something is Expensive, and Saying It’s Something I Can Afford?
Saying something is expensive is the same thing as saying it is costly to you or your wellbeing. Here’s the thing. A lot of “expensive” things, actually give you something in return. For example, a house can give you a grounded & consistent place to stay, warmth, coziness, beauty, shelter, and a place to share with your family & friends.
It can be a place for your pets and your children as well. A place to create memories and love. It can give you a refrigerator and a pantry that you can stock up with gorgeous, nourishing food.
Saying something is expensive may discount the good that this thing brings you.
When you say, “I can afford this” even if you currently can’t, opens up your energy to be able to afford it in the future. It opens up possibilities for money mindset shifts and miracles. It also just feels more empowering.
And if you can afford it, it can relax your mind and help you remember why you are grateful for having that thing.
What If I Change My Money Language to Positive Language?
If you change your language about money to something more positive and open-ended, you’ll start to see money miracles actually happen. You’ll feel loved and supported by the universe, and you’ll watch your bank account grow. You’ll increase your trust in yourself and your ability to create more abundance.
This counts whether you are in a salaried position, you work for yourself, or you work in business partnerships.
A Story.
Y’all already know I finished my energy healing certification in The Emotion Code® and my spiritual life coaching certifications. Yay! Well, I decided to go to the next levels in energy healing and get certified in The Body Code™ and The Belief Code®. (Such cool energy healing techniques btw!!!!)
I spent about $2600 last month buying these new courses. The next day, a friend of mine invited me to a $100 Ethiopian dinner. I love Ethiopian food, but I told her I’d sit this one out, and would try and come for another dinner. Note that I didn’t say it was too expensive. (We ended up having a lovely dinner later on at one of our favorite Mediterranean tapas places, for much less than $100/person, lol).
I didn’t know how that course money was gonna come back to me. I had transferred $3000 from savings in anticipation of needing that money. And ~$1400 was from interest accrued in that account - yay free money! But within a couple of weeks, through surprise Christmas money, birthday money, dog sitting money, and energy healing money, I made the money back from the courses, and more. I didn’t tell anyone I spent that money. I knew Spirit was guiding me to do something important, so I did it.
But I didn’t say, “oh this is so expensive.” I knew if I kept my language positive, moved in alignment with my soul, and surrendered any stress or worries over to Divine Spirit, maybe something cool would happen. And it did!!!!
How to Shift Your Language from “Too Expensive” to Better Alternatives
I’m gonna walk you through 4 alternatives to saying things are expensive, which will help expand your capacity to receive more money.
It takes a bit of awareness and practice, but I have no doubt you’ll master this.
Every time you catch yourself saying “this is so expensive”, forgive yourself, and say this instead:
“I can afford this”
“Universe show me the way…”
“I am collecting the funds to afford this”
“Thank you universe, for the funds to afford this”
Again, even if you can’t afford it right now, even if you’re not collecting the funds. Just say those words! You’ll feel so much better and so much more relieved. Gratitude goes a long way with manifestation, so use it to your advantage!
Here’s another example.
Over a year ago, I had a very strong spiritual dream. In the dream, a guide told me, “Spirit wants you to move to Hawaii.” And I said to the guide, “What? Hawaii?! Why Hawaii?!!” And they disappeared….
So last August I went to visit the Big Island in Hawaii. And I absolutely loved it. I have been wracking my brain on how exactly am I supposed to move there? Cost of living in Hawaii is much higher than in Nashville. Not to mention moving Rocco (my dog) there would be a big deal.
But again, I kept telling myself, “I am collecting the funds.” “Universe show me the way.” “I can afford it, if and when Spirit tells me to move.” And I actually had a shift recently. I think I could make it work!!! I have a lot of equity accruing from the house, the car, and other accounts. So, do you see? I am seeing new possibilities that weren’t apparent to me before.
It wasn’t really about my accounts changing, or manifesting a ton more money, but more so that my mindset had shifted.
If you have a dream, and if that dream is aligned with your soul, and Spirit’s big dream for you, there’s a way. So don’t discount it just because it feels too big. There’s a reason that dream was planted in you, and it’s because it is attainable, even if for now it doesn’t seem like it.
What About Past Expenses?
This one I see a lot, too. People say what they already spent the money on was “so expensive”. But again, you afforded it! Because you already bought it. I took one Econ class in college, and the only term I remember from it was “sunk cost”. Some of you might know this term.
Let’s say you buy tickets to a basketball game. On the day of the game the weather is really bad, and you tell yourself, “well I’m gonna go anyways because I spent the money.”
From a financial standpoint, it doesn’t actually matter whether you go to the game or not, because the money is already spent. So, you could stay home because the money is already spent! In fact, you’ll spend more going to go to the game, due to transportation costs, food, drinks, snacks, etc.
Another example - let’s say you spent $6000 on a spiritual life coaching certification. From a sunk cost perspective, it actually doesn’t matter whether you finish the course or not, because the money is already spent.
Remembering this can help you let go of the money you already spent.
Every Dream Requires An Investment Of Some Sort.
Whether that be time, money, or effort. And usually, you do have to let go of something, whether that’s a relationship, job, money, or an old way of being, or something else, in order to make space for that new thing. We can’t take every part of us with us into new chapters.
But what we can do is watch our language, and remember, we are always part of a divine flow of abundance, that is unlimited in nature and wants to continue giving to us. Even when the economy is “bad”!
We are always supported, if we choose to see it that way. Money comes and goes, it’s like the ocean. Or the stock market. It fluctuates, and you can always create more.
But it starts with your language. Saying that you can afford it opens up so many doors! Better doors than you can even imagine.
And please, try not to spend wildly outside your means. Be wise and discerning about where your money, time, and energy goes!
I hope this post inspires you to use positive language about where your money goes, to remind yourself what good these things are bringing to you, and to remember that you are and can be a great steward of your money!! I believe in you!
