Let's Put Play Back Into Adult Friendship
Greetings y’all!
Do you ever find yourself wanting to catch up and connect with your friends? And when you meet up or chat, do you find yourself listening to more complaining or venting than you bargained for?
I found myself feeling this way too, recently.
It got me thinking about adult friendships. I love friendship more than anything, so I wanted to figure out how to approach this.
I realized one major lesson. We have forgotten how to play.
When we were kids, play was so natural to us. Children say, hey you wanna play at recess? Or make crafts? And then they are immediately friends. As adults, we sometimes forget that play is a way to make friends and grow our bonds.
You don’t really see kids complaining or venting that much to each other, and that’s kind of a great lesson for adults. Play teaches us to get outside of our heads, be present, and have fun.
This is good, because joy is the highest vibration. Joy puts you in the perfect vibrational position to receive more of what you want!
A Great Example of Play
My best friend, Wei, came to visit me this past week. She is my oldest friend - we’ve been friends since 5th and 6th grade, respectively. She is the most fun to have around. We became friends when we started playing soccer and football against the neighborhood boys… and beat them lol.
We started rollerblading together in 7th grade, which evolved into playing street hockey using tuna fish cans as pucks. Then Wei went on to play actual ice hockey, all the way through middle school, high school, and even college on her club team. She still plays hockey now!!
As a terrific hockey player, naturally Wei is also an incredible ice skater. She taught me how to ice skate in my early 20s. Luckily, the skills from our early rollerblading days gave me a good foundation.
We went ice skating together during her visit this past week. She taught me how to hockey-stop on the ice! I was practicing it a few times…
And then I fell backwards on the ice and landed on my butt. It really hurt. She lifted me back up and made sure I was okay. Luckily, I was okay - no broken bones!
We were able to continue skating and enjoy our time on the ice, and I’m really glad we went! Ice skating is so fun!
Other things we did together: attended an Elf Trivia night, made homemade ice cream (pumpkin spice!), went to the Cheesecake Factory, and watched Harry Potter.
Even Rocco (my dog) enjoyed her company, too. When he wanted to eat the stuffed crust pizza crust she was snacking on, she trotted around my kitchen in circles taking bites while he chased her lol. It was so dang funny!
I love spending time with Wei because she makes me laugh, she takes good care of me, and she encourages me to connect to my inner child. She is an incredible example of someone who still honors her own inner child.
So I’m inviting all of you…
To think about playing more! Get in touch with your inner child and see what they want to do. Go rollerskating, get out your paint kit, have your friends over for a game night. Go bowling, paint some pottery. Do tarot readings on each other. Just have a great time!
Life on earth is finite, and if we spend all of our time complaining, we miss out on the good stuff happening right in front of us.
I said this before, and I’ll say this again… you can’t be grateful and complain at the same time.
If we want to up-level our vibrations and invite more love, connection, and joy in, we gotta have fun sometimes.
Please let me know how you feel about this! What kind of activities did you like as a kid? Would you want to try those activities again now? Do you have any friends or people in your life that remind you of your inner child?
Everyone have a great week! Xo
Love,
Angeli
