Why We Should Embrace Uncertainty
Greetings spiritualist and welcome back! 🙂 And welcome to our new subscribers!
I’m reading this book right now, The Icarus Deception by Seth Godin. This was a recommended read from my spiritual life coaching certification program.
One of the topics in the book that totally intrigues me is the concept of uncertainty. As many of you know, I quit my job in healthcare over a year ago, and have been blogging, creating e-books and courses, as well as baking and dog sitting for income streams.
And the topic of uncertainty totally resonates.
But first, let’s talk a bit about the premise of certainty. We were promised when we were young, that if we went to school, behaved, followed the rules, graduated, and went to more schools, we would get high-paying jobs.
We went through institutions that essentially encouraged conformity. School teaches sameness, not standing out. We learned to trade our time, energy, money, and souls in order to “get a good job” and be like everybody else.
In the book, Your Money or Your Life by Vicki Robin, she calls this “making a dying”. Because most of us aren’t following our true gifts when we take a job. We weren’t really taught to. We were taught to go through life without considering our health or soul’s wishes.
Further, we are trained to do things in exchange for “immediate applause”. This can include immediate praise, approval, grades, or money. Aka the things that are “certain”.
And even when you do all these things “right”, you can still burn out really badly, have to quit, and take a full year to recover. It makes you realize how uncertain things really are.
Life is full of uncertainty. That’s the nature of it.
When I quit healthcare, (without much of a plan btw), I took the path of uncertainty. Every day is uncertain. And that can seem like such a bad thing, except that it’s not.
Quitting my job made me realize that I am an artist. Everyone really is. And that my dharma is learning to live my most authentic life, in alignment with my Highest Self, so that I can teach others to do the same.
There’s a lot of uncertainty in taking your own path. I never know when the next sale is going to be. I trust that things are working out, but that doesn’t mean it will always work out immediately or in the timing I think it should.
It’s bigger than me.
Making art is about the long game. It’s about showing up consistently, sharing what you want to share generously, and doing it over and over again for your own fulfillment.
It’s about being missed when you’re not there. And the connections you make can turn into some pretty amazing things!
I sometimes question if this blog is helpful to other people, really I do! And then, without a doubt, the universe sends someone to text me or tell me how much they love this blog. Or then I receive a new paid subscriber and it’s really exciting and encouraging!
But I also can’t do this for praise or immediate exchange of sales. That’s not the point of this. And I sometimes have to be reminded of that. And that is perfectly okay.
The point is, on the other side of uncertainty is possibility. It’s fulfillment, it’s a blank slate, it’s acting along with your soul’s wishes and the universe’s will (the ultimate co-creative process). It’s about listening to your intuition, your body, and acting accordingly.
It’s also about following a previously untraveled path where you get to decide what you want to do, rather than completing someone else’s agenda for them in a repetitive, banal way.
As long as what you’re doing resonates with you (the creator), you’re doing it right. And I wouldn’t trade the freedom, fulfillment, joy, ecstasy, and love that I experience from creating, for any of the “guarantees” like dental insurance or a 40-hour job.
Uncertainty leads to possibilities. Possibilities lead to art. Art is revolution. And you were meant to be an artist in world that is in need of deep change and healing.
Do you also know what loves authentic and highly vibrational, expressed energy? Your tribe, and money 🙂
Do you wanna know who my best boss ever was? Me 🙂
I hope you enjoyed this post. Let me know in the comments what you are thinking!
Thank you for reading and have an incredible week! I’ll be off next week because my big brother and sister-in-law are visiting. Family is important, and so is rest.
Talk in two weeks! Hope you miss me! 😀
Love,
Angeli
