Greetings spiritualists and welcome back! 🙂
It’s Scorpio season, and I feel this is always a really challenging season of releasing old belief systems and upgrading them into new ones that better serve us.
A lot of the inner work I do has been mostly self-taught and from my intuition. So I’m gonna attempt to teach this to you here. Of course, use what resonates and discard the rest.
I’ve found there are 4 levels to healing an inner belief system. It usually starts with a triggering event or thread of events (the story), the primary feeling(s), the secondary feeling(s), and then finally unearthing the belief that is harming you.
What are limiting beliefs?
Limiting beliefs are belief systems that block you from embodying your true essence, nature, and potential. Our true nature is authentic power and limitlessness. So anything that says otherwise in our psyche or subconscious would be considered a limiting belief.
Why heal limiting beliefs?
Every one of us has inherited some or many limiting beliefs between this lifetime and many lifetimes. We are in a pivotal time in Earth’s history where many of these belief systems are now outdated, and get in the way of our true potential and true happiness on this planet. They not only block our manifestations from happening, but they block true harmony, peace, and inner fulfillment.
Stage 1: The Trigger/The Story
A trigger is what happens when something (actually quite ordinary) happens that makes us feel extreme emotions. Usually this comes in the form of a karmic event, that honestly feels wild and crazy. Why is this happening? Why is this so difficult? Why aren’t we seeing eye-to-eye?
The trigger is usually accompanied by the story of what happened. Everybody needs stories. Stories help us make sense of what is going on, and if we do this stage right, stories can help lead us to step 2 (primary feelings).
But the problem is, many of us stay stuck in the story stage, where we are thinking about the feelings, but not actually feeling them. Feeling your feelings requires presence and awareness, as well as getting into your body.
But because we grew up in a highly intellectualized world, with not a lot of regard for feelings, we can stay stuck in the stories, which means we are re-creating the same dynamics over and over again in our lives. We stay frustrated, and it’s hard to let go of situations too. I’ve been here so many times.
Stage 2: Primary Feelings
On the surface, a trigger will make you feel extreme. Extreme anger or outrage or frustration. Extreme anxiety or fear. But this is only part of the bigger picture. It takes some awareness to feel these surface level feelings.
On the other hand, they can still be very attached to the story, to the feeling of victimhood, of being stuck and disempowered. Ie., they made me feel this way and I can’t do anything about it.
Most of the time these are “protector” feelings that are covering up more tender ones underneath that you were likely discouraged from feeling when you were younger. (ie., shame or guilt).
Stage 3: Secondary Feelings
Secondary feelings are our true feelings about what is going on. In my experience, this looks like sadness, disappointment, grief, shame, guilt, vulnerability. Sometimes even surprise. What you are really “angry” or “anxious” about is this. Again, it takes awareness and time to feel your feelings in your body to then understand what else is going on. We are so close to the belief system when we get into these feelings.
Stage 4: The Limiting Belief System
This is the background story that has been running in your subconscious or your DNA for a long time. Limiting beliefs can be formed in childhood or babyhood, even in adolescence or early adulthood.
While it can be deeply helpful to locate where the belief was formed (using your intuition in meditation or EFT tapping - the two ways that have worked for me), sometimes it’s not that necessary. Healing the belief itself can be tremendously helpful.
Limiting beliefs can also be passed down from generations above. Which means you inherited this belief system into your epigenetic DNA the minute you were born.
I intuited this recently in my own life.
What Happened In My Life Recently…
A recent intuitive decision was thwarted by my family (when I asked for help with something) in favor of a more “logical” decision, without my consultation. It left me feeling unhappy in my belly about the final arrangement.
After feeling my feelings, I realized the belief system that has long lived in my lineage was that women (and daughters) are not regarded in our family the same way as men. Women are not listened to, especially when sharing our intuitive wisdom about an important event or decision.
Intuition hasn’t been a valued skill in my family. If women ask for what we really want, according to our intuition, instead of being seen as empowered and authentic, we are seen as “not grateful enough” for what we are receiving instead.
We’re supposed to ingratiate ourselves, or we are bossy and demanding. And, we must be asking for selfish and suspicious reasons, instead of what’s for everyone’s greatest and highest good (which is usually what intuition will lead you towards).
This is a really outdated belief system that has lived in my lineage for generations. And it’s a harmful dynamic between men and women within a family structure.
I’m betting I’m not the only person whose lineage carries such outdated messaging. It’s time to shift this! If we want to create new and satisfying family structures, with a sense of mutuality, respect, love, commitment, cooperation, expansion, and intuition, we can’t live by these old ways of being anymore.
How to Shift This
The hardest part is feeling everything, understanding and knowing where it is felt in the body, being with it, with presence, and letting it run through you in the waves that it will. It might dissipate, come back, get stronger, get weaker, leave out, turn up again. Repeat. Such is life.
But then, remembering what we know about the Law of Attraction - what you believe, you receive. So it’s time to reprogram a new belief system, so that I can manifest this not only within my existing family, but within the new one that I intend to create. As within, so without.
The New Beliefs:
Again, I usually use EFT to do this, and I will go over how to do this in my new e-book that is coming out (date TBD). But affirmations can also be helpful here too.
Women are regarded as empowered, divine, sovereign beings within the family
Spiritual gifts, such as intuition, clarity, channeling, and creativity are highly regarded in this family (equal to left-brain gifts)
I am seen, heard, honored, respected, valued, and appreciated for following my intuition by my family
I am celebrated for being who I am within my family
My family respects my boundaries and all of my feelings
All feelings are seen as valid within my family structure
I love, appreciate, respect, honor, and cherish myself, my intuition, and all of my feelings and boundaries
I create a family built on trust, respect, divine sovereignty, love, admiration, and mutuality
The list can go on…
Conclusion
Healing limiting beliefs is a painful but necessary part of the spiritual growth path. Life will initiate you at different times in your life to help you up-level to your next way of being, which means upgrading your belief system.
When you heal something within you, you invite others around you to do the same. At the same time, you stop the cycle of abuse and maltreatment from unconsciously being passed on to the next generation. This is how we heal the world. It starts with ourselves. And it is totally worth it.
