Aligned Doing vs. Dutiful Doing
Greetings spiritualists and welcome back! 🙂
This topic has been weighing on my mind for some time, so I am excited to finally talk about it! 🙂
Wayyy back when, I talked about setting intentions and the two types - love and fear-based intentions.
Love-based intentions always come from your soul, carry positive energy, and generally uplift all those around you. Fear-based intentions generally stray away from your soul’s values and plans, and can often result in chaos, drama, and self-abandonment.
The energy from the intentions you set carry out through the entire experience. For example, if you set an intention to date for sex, and not for spiritual partnership, that energy will carry through your dating experience, and there’s no changing it into what you want later. I’ve done this before and learned a great lesson.
That’s why being intentional matters. If you want to live an aligned life, you have to set aligned intentions, from your soul, and carry out actions that match.
All of our doing, whether we realize this or not, matches our original intentions. Let’s go through some aligned doing vs. dutiful doing examples.
Aligned Doing
Aligned action (or doing) is when you are listening to the whispers of your soul and carrying out an action in the same vibrational energy (generally high). An example of this was recently.
My sister-in-law was coming to visit, and she recently started a gluten-free and dairy-free diet. Originally, my plan was to pick up pastries one morning, but given her new diet, I received an intuitive hit to make gluten-free pumpkin spice pancakes instead. Yes, specifically a gluten-free version of these pancakes (so good btw!)
I was nervous to make them! But I decided to do it anyway. In cooking them, I felt light and happy and my belly felt good. Turns out that she actually loves pancakes and was missing them. Seeing how much she loved my pancakes made me really happy.
So in giving, I was receiving, and she was receiving because she got to eat something that she loves. She also learned that there are great gluten-free flour blends available, should she feel inspired to use them sometime. Win-win-win!
The reason this felt so good though, is because universal life force was supporting me.
I could have gone against my soul’s wishes and made bacon and eggs instead. But that would have decreased my life force and not made me feel good.
Do you see how feeling good and aligned action are one and the same?
Dutiful Doing
Dutiful doing is when you do things in obligation to others over yourself. For example, saying yes to something that you deep down know you don’t want to do, but do it anyways to please others. This can be really prevalent with family and wedding type situations.
Back in March, I was a bridesmaid for my cousin’s wedding in Australia. And I’ll say I took a good day and a half to sit on this decision to make sure it felt right in my belly. It did, so I went through with it.
But imagine if I hadn’t felt good about it – straying away from what your soul is telling you not only makes you feel bad, but it creates karmic energy - aka chaos. This could have manifested in the form of drama, mishaps, accidents, anything. It wouldn’t have gone as smoothly as it did. Sure, I did fall off the stage at the reception and bruised my hip pretty badly.
But otherwise, I was happy to spend that extra time with my cousin, someone I only see once every 10 years or so. Because it was in alignment with my inner being.
If she had asked me to do something else, and it didn’t feel aligned with my inner being, it would have been my right to say no. In fact, my uncle wanted me to come and stay longer in Australia to attend more wedding events, and I did say no. Wasn’t in alignment with my being.
The Downstream Effects of Dutiful Doing
It is easy to say yes to familial or social things without considering what it is that we want. And this is especially hard because much of our cultural conditioning started within our family units.
The problem is though, when we say yes and abandon our own feelings for the feelings of other people, we create ripple effects in the forms of resentment, tension, chaos, and we lose life energy, our most precious resource.
The other thing we are doing is depriving them of the treasured experience of mending their feelings about the new boundary, as well as intuiting the next aligned steps for remedying their situation. We would be, in essence, blocking them from their soul’s highest growth as well as their empowerment. Do you really want to block somebody else’s soul growth?
I’d also say if you’re doing this “one time”, you’re likely doing it in all parts of your life. There is no one isolated issue in your life, they’re all interconnected. So it’s possible that you might have unsatisfactory relationships in your life, or that you’re not receiving as much as you are worthy of in work or other endeavors, because of your self-abandoning, which is directly related to your self-worth. How we feel about ourselves is a direct mirror to our outside world.
It’s also one thing to know these things intellectually, and another to embody it. Embodiment only comes when you’ve deconstructed your conditioning, limiting beliefs, protector parts, and traumas to reveal the magnificent self-worth that was hiding beneath.
And you are worthy of feeling this high vibrational energy, always! We forget this sometimes, because of cultural conditioning. I’m here to remind you that you are worthy of making decisions that feel right in your belly and body, every single time - even if it means making other people uncomfortable. Especially if it does this. People will watch and learn from your example.
Where I’m At With This Now
As for me, I feel like I’m in a place now where I just can’t compromise my gut feelings anymore. Not for anybody else’s comfort, no thank you. It took me some time to get here. But if I say yes to you, then you know I am 100% all in. And if I say no to you, then that means this isn’t the best fit and you’ll best be looking elsewhere for help, both for your and my greatest and highest good.
And isn’t that ultimately what we want??
I hope you enjoyed this post. Do you think about this ever? I’d love to hear!
Thanks for reading and have a great week!
Love,
Angeli
